What colors does the composite decking come in?

We own 4 series of decking, different decking collections have different colors. Decking images showcasing each color can be found on individual product pages, however if you would like to get a better idea of these you can order a sample pack here.

How do I install the decking?

Please refer to our WPC decking installation here

How far apart should the supporting joists be?

The supporting joist below the plastic composite decking boards should be a maximum of 400mm apart. For further information on installation please see our installation guide.

Does the decking board reversible?

We advise the boards to be laid small groove side up. You may wish to lay them differently however you may experience increased slippage and color change when laying the outdoor decking boards differently, and this is done at your discretion. Whilst you can fit them either way up we recommend installing the multi-groove side up, the reverse side will be less slip-resistant and will show stains and watermarks far more when fitted with the multi-groove side facing down.

Will I get a color difference with my decking boards?

Our composite decking boards are produced in batches and made from 60% recycled hardwood making this a natural product. For this reason slight color variations may occur (more noticeable when purchasing different lengths of boards or when laying the boards “wide groove up”) We advise purchasing decking boards in the same lengths to avoid initial color difference. Although we will always endeavor to pick all products from the same batch, when orders are added or amended at a later date the boards will likely be from a different batch therefore color variation is likely. Please ensure you order the correct amount of boards on the initial order.

How long does composite decking last?

We offer a 15 years warranty on all our extrusion decking and 25 years on all co-extrusion decking, it is meaning you get peace of mind with your new decking. We anticipate when looked after well outdoor composite decking will last well in excess of the 10-25 years warranty.

How much is composite decking vs wood?

Our wood plastic composite decking boards are competitively priced against solid wood in the market. Composite decking requires very little maintenance meaning your time can be spent enjoying it rather than on expensive repainting or staining.

What to do with leftover WPC decking?

After purchasing and installing WPC decking, there will always be some leftovers. It will occupy space when it’s piled up, but it will be a pity if it’s thrown away. In fact, after simple processing, you can turn these remaining scraps into practical items. The WPC decking produced and sold by Oakio can be cut, assembled and fixed, and processed like wood. The decking board is moisture-proof and mildew-proof, so there is no need to worry about any problems in outdoor use. You can make an outdoor flower stand out of the remaining decking. Put your favorite flowers and plants in it and put them on the balcony. The remaining WPC decking can also be used to pave backyard trails. It’s very easy to make such a trail and doesn’t require a lot of material. Simply put the decking pieces together and fix them on the ground. Such an interesting path can elevate the style of the backyard. In addition, the remaining WPC decking can also be turned into some small things, for example, a mailbox or a small stool. These can be used outdoors for a long time, no need to worry about rotting or molding after a while. Try using the remaining scraps in different ways, and learn more about the rest of our website for inspiration.

How to cut WPC decking?

WPC decking is a pressed extruded composite wood product made from wood powder and recycled plastic. Although it is an unconventional deck, it can be cut, drilled and fixed like traditional wood. Cutting can generally be done by using standard woodworking tools. Table saws, circular saws, and miter saws are your best choice. Choose the blades made of a hard alloy to ensure a smooth cut. Be careful not to overheat the blade during cutting, otherwise, it will affect the cutting effect. Before installing our WPC decking, you will need to read our installation guide in advance to ensure proper installation. Although WPC decking is similar to wood, it still needs attention in the details of fixing and gap etc.. In addition, our professional technical team can also provide technical advisory support for you.

How slippery does the decking become when wet?

Oakio Decking is designed with micro-grooves that aid in slip-resistance. Regardless of conditions, our ranges can outperform timber, however, we will recommend extra caution if the decking becomes wet.

Do I need to have spacing and gaps between the decking?

As composite and plastic material expands and contract down the length of the product from changes in temperature, we do always require adequate expansion spacing left at the end of each product. The correct spacing required can be found in the WPC decking installation guide of each product.

What cleaning products or soap can I use?

Using a standard household washing up liquid will be effective when cleaning Oakio products, do not use any cleaners stronger than this or any cleaners containing a bleaching agent.

Is Oakio composite timber really maintenance free?

Yes! Oakio’s fully capped color technology coats the boards with a high stain, scratch, and fade-resistant layer. In addition, the boards are waterproof, so there is no need for any labor that would be necessary with regular timber. Normal sweeping and cleaning is still necessary to clean off debris and dirt.

Will Oakio composite timber fade because of exposure to the sun?

Oakio’s superior technology gives the composite wood boards great Ultra Violet resistance. Oakio have tested direct UV on our boards for hundreds of hours with minimal change.

What's the length of Oakio composite decking?

Our decking standard length is 2.2m, 2.8m and 3.6m. The length could be customized, but it’s better to consider the container space and weight limit, so we can maximize it and lower the average freight.

What’s the distance should i reserve between the joist?

As composite and plastic material expands and contracts down the length of the product from changes in temperature, we do always require adequate expansion spacing left at the end of each product.
Round hollow decking: 300mm,
Square hollow decking: 350mm
Solid decking: 400mm

How do I choose the clips and screws for decking?

We have 3 main clips, 304 stainless steel clips, plastic clips and aluminum clips. In consideration of the cost, plastic clips are the cheapest option, and stainless steel and aluminum clips are the same price. But stainless steel could offer 3mm gap between the board, and plastic clips and aluminum clips offer 6mm gap. You could choose the clips type according to the above factors.

How do I choose hollow decking and solid decking?

The main difference between hollow decking and solid decking is the bear capacity. If you are a house owner and the decking is for your house, like backyard or terrace, square hollow decking or round hollow decking is a good option either for cost or safety. If the decking will be installed in some public areas with high traffic, like park, garden, hotel, etc. Round hollow decking or solid decking is better.

What's the fire rate of Oakio wpc decking?

Oakio’s fire rate for decking could achieve the Europe fire resistant standard, BFL-S1-D0, this is the highest fire rate for wpc products. But this is base on fire-resistant formula. The Oakio standard products are base on normal formula, the fire rate could meet class C or Class D.
